Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard and Florence Atwater

Book Summary by Miss Mott's Class:

Mr.Popper is a house painter in Stillwater. He enjoys reading about penguins in the Antarctic. One day, Mr. Popper received a special package in the mail. Inside the package was a real penguin.

Mr.Popper and his family went to great lengths to make the penguin comfortable in its new home. Captain Cook did well for a while, but eventually became sick because he was lonely. That is why Greta, a girl penguin, came to live with the Poppers.

Greta and Captain Cook ended up having several baby penguins. Their wasn't enough room to keep the penguins in the ice box anymore, so Mr. Popper fixed up the basement for them. The basement had a diving pond, ice rink, and more.

The Poppers were running out of money fast because it costed so much to keep the penguins. Mr. Popper decided to train the penguins and take them to theatres to perform. He called the act Popper's Performing Penguins. The penguins were a hit.

After the tour was over, Mr. Popper had a request from Admiral Drake to take the penguins to the North Pole. Mr. Popper agreed to let the penguins go because he knew they didn't belong in Stillwater.

The story ends with Admiral Drake, Mr. Popper, the penguins, and the crew on their way to the North Pole.

Class Project:
Our class watched a Discovery Education Video on penguins. Check out our PowerPoint Presentations to see what we learned!
